Transparency Report

At 23andMe, we strive for transparency about all of our data practices. Respect for your privacy and trust are at the core of our approach to responding to legal requests. We will not release your individual-level Personal Information to any third party without asking for and receiving your explicit consent to do so, unless required by law.

Under certain circumstances Personal Information may be subject to disclosure pursuant to judicial or other government subpoenas, warrants, or orders, or in coordination with regulatory authorities. However, we use all practical legal and administrative resources to resist such requests. In the event we are required by law to make a disclosure, we will notify you in advance, unless doing so would violate the law or a court order.

The statistics included in our Transparency Report reflect the following:

  • The number of government requests for customer information we've received.
  • The number of instances where data was produced (in whole or in part) without prior, explicit consent by the individual(s) specified in the request.
  • Number of users or accounts specified in requests we have received.
