IT Systems Administrator

23andMe is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator who will be responsible for the architecture, installation, operation, administration, backup and recovery, and maintenance of the various IT and Cloud Infrastructure platforms, including and not limited to - VMWare Virtual Server Infrastructure, Windows, Linux, and Mac Endpoints (Windows and Mac Endpoint Management, mobile devices), Enterprise Identity Providers such as Okta, Active Directory, and Entra ID, various aspects of cloud infrastructure including AWS and Azure. We are looking for someone who enjoys building relationships with the business, while helping improve the architecture, integration, performance, and security of our IT infrastructure. You will provide senior technical administration expertise in architecting and managing projects and tasks that involve a variety of on-premise and cloud based applications and services.

What You'll Do

  • Management and Administration of Windows servers primarily, Linux servers secondarily, as well as basic interactions and management of established cloud technology back-ends such as AWS, Azure, GCP, and VMWare Hybrid Architectures
  • Serve as the primary administrator for Microsoft Intune, responsible for managing and maintaining Intune infrastructure and configurations.
  • Design, implement, and enforce Intune policies and configurations profiles for device management, compliance, security, and application management. 
  • Package applications and upgrades for deployment through Intune, ensuring compatibility and seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Oversee the enrollment process of devices into Intune, including zero touch Autopilot deployment, registration, and configuration.
  • Implement security and compliance patching activities for server equipment by using WSUS to deploy patches to target collections
  • Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical systems such as Windows and Linux Application Servers, Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases, VMWare vSphere, and Active Directory
  • Active Directory Design and Implementation: Design, deploy, and maintain Active Directory structures that align with organizational requirements and best practices.
  • Active Directory User and Group Management: Create, modify, and manage user accounts, groups, and permissions to ensure secure and efficient access to network resources.
  • Active Directory Group Policy Management: Develop and enforce Group Policies to standardize and secure desktop configurations, application settings, and security settings across the network.
  • Develop procedures and documentation  to maintain security, and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse
  • Administer, troubleshoot, and maintain certain aspects of the network such as DNS, DHCP, as well as managing the port requirements for VLAN configuration
  • Collaborate with other team members in the administration of IT
  • Infrastructure including, but not limited to VMware, NetApp storage systems, security management, and management of our lab instrument infrastructure. 

 

What You'll Bring

  • Excellent diagnostic skills with the ability to use resources to solve complicated system issues.
  • Ability to work as part of a team but also focus on specific delegated tasks and larger projects.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a quickly evolving environment
  • Experience with Okta, Jamf Pro & Group Management rules
  • Familiar with centralized client management systems
  • Significant knowledge of a broad range of Mac OS X and Windows based applications
  • Knowledge of networking concepts
  • Organization, proactiveness, and the ability to work independently in a quickly growing environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical end users
  • Excellent customer service skills. Must be adept with working with all levels of the organization
  • Able to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a quickly evolving environment

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience in various endpoint management solutions such as Jamf, Intune/Endpoint Manager, PDQ Inventory & Deploy, and WSUS
  • Strong understanding and experience using Okta
  • Project Management experience is a plus
  • Experience in cloud (AWS) and on-premises server virtualization (VMware)
  • Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills for existing infrastructure, as well as extensive development, testing, and deployment skills for new solutions
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 product suites is a plus
  • Background in AD and Entra ID integration management
  • Expertise in Unix and Powershell scripting

Pay Transparency
23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area.  The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
