We are looking for a seasoned leader who is a passionate creative thinker, maker and doer dedicated to bringing a brand voice to life to help millions of people realize their superpower - their DNA. This role will lead a team of writers and create beautifully crafted content, stories and experiences that capture the voice, tone and spirit of 23andMe’s unique brand.

Who You Are

You are excited to join an in-house creative team made up of writers, designers and brand visionaries. You will partner and lead the team of creatives working closely with our Group Creative Lead, Design and report to the Chief Brand Officer.

You are an experienced, excellent storyteller with an attention to the craft of words and understand the power of building a brand. You have a strong background in the creation and execution of best in class content, stories and integrated experiences across multiple mediums. You are an energetic, positive, and hardworking team player who is driven towards achieving creative excellence and helping others to do the same. You thrive in a collaborative environment full of talented creatives, marketers, product leaders and business leaders.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with the Group Design Lead to run the internal team, concept ideas and write copy for campaigns, websites, digital content and social media.
  • Partner with Brand Strategy and Partnerships to bring positioning and insights to life through the power of our brand, messaging and language.
  • Present to senior executive teams, product teams and cross functional teams.
  • Shape the future of health, research and culture through campaign and website development across a variety of areas in the company such as research, product experience, therapeutics and other.
  • Uphold the quality of all brand guidelines, copy deliverables and ensure they meet standards for creative excellence.
  • Play an ongoing role in the development of our brand voice and advocate for consistent application of copy standards across experiences.
  • Champion the voice and tone of the brand through cross-functional coordination, strategic planning and hands-on writing.
  • Actively seek out ways to shape the creative DNA of our brand in everything we do.
  • Articulate ideas and communicate proactively in a cross-functional team. 
  • Lead multiple projects and timelines from concept, production, to completion.
  • Work closely with the project management team to set expectations and meet deadlines.
  • Ensure quality and timely creative production and communication with creative teammates.
  • Gather feedback throughout the process and create alignment among stakeholders.
  • Actively seek out new ways to help grow and shape our creative outputs and culture.

 

What You'll Bring

  • 12+ years of experience in an integrated marketing-related field from an agency or in-house team.
  • A portfolio/resume that demonstrates a range of work, a compelling storytelling perspective, big idea-led thinking and attention to craft. 
  • Experience managing teams and cross functional teams, presenting to executives and socializing high concepts for brands internally.
  • Ability to write long-form copy as well as short, attention-grabbing lines.
  • Attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills - you understand the power of “why” behind every recommendation and can mobilize teams to move forward with strong brand messaging.
  • Excellent organization and presentation skills.
  • A collaborative work ethic.
  • The ability to take constructive criticism with ease and grace - creativity is subjective and we often know many people have opinions of marketing so you are seasoned to understand good ideas come from everywhere.
  • The ability to proactively help facilitate the growth of a larger vision within the team.
  • The ability and openness to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • Experience in crafting copy for direct marketing initiatives that can be evolved through testing and data.
  • Role is located in Sunnyvale, California. Relocation available.
  • Writing samples and portfolio required. A writing assignment may be asked of you during the interview process.

Pay Transparency
23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area.  The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
